WLNY

February 1, 2006 – January 31, 2007

WLNY offers qualified students the opportunity to join the station’s internship program.  An internship at WLNY is a terrific way to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment.  The program allows participants to gain hands on experience as crew members of our in house produced programs such as: News 55 Live at 11, The Cutting Edge, and News 55 Focus.  WLNY accepts interns for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.  Our internship program offers students the perfect opportunity to combine their school studies with actual work experience.  Duties may include training and assisting in commercial production, studio camera, teleprompter, writing, research, editing and many other aspects of TV production.  For the period of February 1, 2006-January 31, 2007:  WLNY utilized, 14 Production Interns and 7 News Interns.

WLNY administers a scholarship program directed to college students desiring to pursue a career in broadcasting.  Currently, this college scholarship program is administered in cooperation with Dowling College. WLNY worked with Dowling College in designing the program.  WLNY promotes the scholarships to Dowling College students and assists in the solicitation of prospective scholarship recipients by means of notices in the school newspaper.  Recipients are selected by WLNY after an application review, evaluation and recommendation from Dowling College.  The program’s effectiveness is evaluated from time to time by David Feinblatt, President and Susan Klemm, Human Resources Manager.  The purpose of this program is to attract qualified students to broadcasting, thereby increasing the number of qualified potential employees in the field of broadcasting on Long Island.  Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and grade point average.   Two scholarships were awarded for the 2006-2007 academic year.

WLNY participated in a Job Fair on April 6, 2006 at Nassau County Community College. The Human Resources Manager attended the job fair and collected resumes, which will be referred back to if a suitable position opens.

WLNY participated in a Job Fair on July 19, 2006 at Katherine Gibbs College. The Human Resources Manager attended the job fair and collected resumes, which will be referred back to if a suitable position opens.

Send your request with the following information: the organization’s name, mailing address, telephone number and contact person, and identify the category of job openings for which you request notices.  Send your request to: WLNY, 270 South Service Road, Suite 55, Melville, NY  11747-2337.
